Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) Information: History and Facilities
Dubrovnik Airport was originally constructed on its current site in 1960, although it was previously based at nearby Gruda, in the south-easterly area of Konavle, for more than 30 years. From the 1990s onwards, the airport has been thoroughly modernised, extended and renovated, with improved facilities, an updated passenger terminal, a new parking area for buses, and additional duty-free shopping.
Nearby Cavtat can be reached in just a few minutes, while the city of Dubrovnik is approximately a 20-minute drive from the airport. Regional shuttle buses transport passengers from the terminal to the gate of Dubrovnik's old town, where connections can be made to Zagreb, Spilt and a number of smaller Croatian villages. Taxis depart from a rank outside of the airport terminal and travel to multiple local destinations in Cavtat and Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) Information: About Dubrovnik Tourism
Croatia has recently experienced a surge in tourism and it offers an impressive coastline with ferries departing to islands in the Adriatic Sea. Dubrovnik, a World Heritage Site, lies on the far southerly side of Croatia and is sometimes called the 'Pearl of the Adriatic'. Its shores famously conceal the underwater wreckage of ships dating back to the 18th century as well as of submarines and destroyers from both world wars.
Near to Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), tourists will find plenty of interest, with the main sights to see around the city including the ancient city walls and gateways, the historic Minceta Tower and Revelin Tower and the 15th-century Dominican Monastery. Also of interest is Dubrovnik's magnificent Sponza Palace, which dates back to 1516 and is sited opposite St. Blaise Church, on the main public square.
